How to interpret this record

Los Angeles 2026 Candidate Position Source History

Public office is an institution with responsibilities, boundaries and a term. A person may hold that office, seek it, leave it or appear in historical records about it. Those are different relationships.

Follow the seat through time

An office record is a useful anchor because people change while the institution continues. A current roster identifies a holder at a stated time; an election record identifies candidates for a particular contest. A vacant seat is still an office. Comparing these records helps avoid the common mistake of treating a candidate biography as proof that the person currently has governmental authority.

Keep identities and campaigns distinct

Names are not unique identifiers. A person can run more than once, seek different offices or appear with different punctuation in separate sources. Electionpedia retains the source identifiers and election context that allow a reader to check a match. A campaign committee is also a separate record: its receipts and spending should not be read as the candidate’s personal wealth.

Dated evidence · no automated verdict

Source history, without
the “flip-flop” label.

Electionpedia preserves when an exact current campaign statement was observed in an archived capture and when it was observed live. A capture time is evidence of “present by,” never a publication date.

WHAT THE RECORD PROVES

The exact excerpt appeared by the archived capture time.

Each archived observation proves only that the exact current campaign excerpt appeared in the captured page by that capture time. Capture time is not treated as publication time.

WHAT IT DOES NOT PROVE

No change, consistency, or motive is inferred.

Election.org preserves dated source observations and never generates a flip-flop, reversal, consistency, or what-changed claim from matching excerpts alone.

Eight equal candidate records

Audit the underlying observations

Each candidate page shows the same campaign statements already in the comparison, now connected to its earliest matching archive observation and current live-source observation.

Failure stays visible

Archive access is fallible; the record says so.

0 snapshot requests returned an explicit fetch error during the refresh. Of 57 current statements, 53 were located in an accessible archived capture; 4 have current-source evidence only.

Provider: Internet Archive Wayback Machine CDX API · last verified Oct 18, 2026 · this release covers 57 current statements, including 4 without a matching archive observation. It does not cover every historical position or every page ever published.
